Neighborhood House is a multi-service, multi-site organization

History:
While Neighborhood House was founded in January 1905, its
roots go back to 1896 with the founding of a Sewing School
for Girls in South Portland by the Portland Chapter of National
Council for Jewish Women. By the 1920's services had expanded
to include fitness and recreation, casework and counseling
services, free schools, kindergarten, English classes, and
a Well Baby Clinic. In 1982, Neighborhood House put down
roots in the Multnomah neighborhood with the opening of
the Southwest Senior Center and completed the move in 1983
by moving offices and services into its present location.
